Wasting your time on Adsense?

December 3rd, 2006

Do you feel as though you’re wasting your time on Adsense? So many internet marketers have gone through this Google Adsense miscomfort and then dismiss the money making possiblities as fake.

The problem is that you’ve probably only have one or 2 websites which have Adsense on them and you are hoping for a $10 day so that you can make $300 per month.

Well unless lots of people visit your website and continue to return, you’re not likely going to earn a comfortable living with Adsense using just 2 websites.

I think you know where I’m leading onto here.

Imagine if you have 50 websites with Adsense on them. If these websites have good content on them with well placed, blended Adsense then it looks every likely that you will earn over $10 a day right?

Adsense is a numbers game.

With 50 websites, it’s about $10 for each domain which is a $500 investment a year. A modest $10 a day will give you $3650 return. An absolute no brainer for this investment. Now what will happen if you have more than 50 websites????

What I’m implying is, first of all, not to give up.

Second, there is no big secret. An Adsense income requires hard work at the start. It is not a get rich quick technique.

Finally, create as many websites and/or blogs as possible. Put out good quality content and build it over time. The passive Adsense income will come.

Adsense income has its ups and downs. Acknowledge that it fluctuates and say to yourself “this thing works. I’m not expecting a miracle in a day but I know it works”.

Adsense will be finished in 2 years…Maximum

October 13th, 2006

My cousin came over from the UK and had dinner with me tonight. Afterwards we went to a bar and caught up with each other on the latest. My cousin is trying to make money on the internet. He’s been working at it for 2 years. So we shared our thoughts.

Let me give you a bit of my cousin’s background. He had very good success with a blog directory which earned him several thousand dollars income in Adsense. He also had other websites which earned him a couple of hundred.

Something happened to his blog directory a year ago. Google banned him from the search engine results. Gave him a page rank of 0 instead of 7 and Adsense income is non-existant. It was such a blow to him, my cousin never recovered.

We were talking about making money with Adsense and he is now very negative about it. No matter what I say to him, he insists that Adsense has another 2 years to go before it ends just like the banner days.

I can’t disagree with him as I can’t predit things in 2 years time. But the fact is…yes. Adsense clicks could no longer exist and become a thing of the past. However, that is only a possiblity and what matters is at the moment, Adsense is bringing income to a lot of people.

Let’s learn a lesson here. My cousin totally changed his mindset because he had too high hopes with his blog directory. He thought it was going to make him well off. The phrase “putting all your eggs in one basket” comes to mind.

I don’t know what the reason is for Google’s ban on his website, but the fact is, these sort of things can happen to anyone. We need to create several websites instead of relying on just one incase the unfortunate happens.

Finally, the most important lesson we should learn in our life is that when the going gets tough, don’t give up. Persist. It’s quite sad to see my cousin, who I’ve known for many years, have changed. He is so pessimistic with Adsense income that he has totally given up hope on starting anything similar.

Just know the fact that this could happen to you so be prepared when it does occur. Have several websites each making Adsense income, have 2 Adsense accounts incase 1 Adsense account is banned and also have other sources of marketing incase Google kicks you off their search engine.

Have different income sources and when disaster happens, you’ll still be able to stand.

Tracking your Adsense clicks

September 26th, 2006

One of the most crucial ongoing task with your blog advertising Google Adsense clicks is tracking the results. This means knowing where the clicks are coming from and where they are going.

This is very valuable information. I cannot emphasise this enough. With this information you will know where to concentrate on generating traffic, what your readers are thinking and also if your changes in Adsense placements and colors are effective.

One of the websites you must bookmark now is http://www.mybloglog.com

This is a free membership. There is also a paid membership which is very cheap. What it can do is track your visitors to your blog by having one line of javascript in your blog. It is very simple and effective.

A must have tool. Check the website out to start with now. It’s free and if you like it you can upgrade later. I’ll talk about this tool in the next few days.

Adsense accounts safety net?

September 22nd, 2006

Beginners guide to Google Adsense is all about teaching the basics to the newbie so that they have a chance of having a good start and not get burnt. However, you’re still new and mistakes will happen. You need a safety net.

Nothing is beats having two Google Adsense accounts. I recommend most people to have two accounts even if they’re a seasoned pro. The reason is if one gets shut down, you’re back on your feet again in 3 mins. How cool can you get?

You may unexpectedly have mistakes with your site having 4 adsense units for example and if you don’t have insurance, you’ll loose a few days of income.

For the confident Adsense website builder, they can try some new techniques with Adsense and their website. For example, there is a software called Voodoo Blog which can create hundreds of blogs in one day. Risky, but if it works well, you can put it as your main stream marketing technique and watch the Google checks come in.

Adsense policies that will hurt your income

September 21st, 2006

It’s about time that I should mention the Adsense policies that if not obliged, will get your Google Adsense account terminated. So if you’re breaking any one of these commandments then quickly correct them. Sometimes Google may not know but if your competitor grasses on you, then you’ll be in deep pooh pooh.

By all means, check up on Google’s policies from time to time. They have the rights to change them. I mean they do pay you right?

Without further ado, here are the commandments:

  •  It is a sin to place Adsense on pages that have no content. So make sure yo have good relevant content.
  • A maximum of 3 Adsense units can be displayed on each webpage. So don’t go crazy.
  • A maximum of 2 Google AdSense for search boxes can be inserted on a webpage.
  • Only One link unit can be placed on each webpage. This is in addition to the ad units and search boxes specified above. Link units are considered to part of Adsense.
  • No Adsense formats whatsoever can be displayed on domain parking websites, pop-ups, pop-unders, or in any emails.
  • The Adsense cannot be hidden so that it does not look like an ad. The colors must be such that any ad elements, including text and URL, are visible.
  • Clicks on Google ads must not result in a new browser window being launched.

Now please go and check your websites.

Beginners with Adsense are shy

September 21st, 2006

One of the major problems with beginners or newbies, are - shyness. Yes they are shy like 5 year old boys and girls when they’re introduced to someone they don’t know well. The reason for the shyness is fear. Fear of the unknown. You won’t suspect a  person you meet who is confident and loud to be a beginner right?

You cannot be shy with your sites advertising Google Adsense. Nope, you have to get your word around and tell people to come and visit your site. An Adsense website littered with excellent content and expensive Adsense units are useless if no one knows about it and therefore clickless.

You have to have a big mouth and tell people about it. For example if you have a blog, then tell people about the blog. If you have a website on carpets, then tell people to check out the new information on carpets. By the way, don’t tell people to check out your Adsense because it’s against Google’s TOS.

Apart from word of mouth, add your website links to your signatures with a catchy description. For example:

http://www.adsense-blogger.com - The Adsense blog about Adsense and making money online.

Go to forums, and post and ask people to review your sites. Don’t be shy. Have sigantures at the bottom of your postings - don’t by shy. You’re missing out on traffic that can earn you Adsense clicks.

Yep. By now I hope you’ve learnt that being shy is expensive. So be a loud mouth and blab to everyone you know.

The right mindset to start creating Adsense websites

September 20th, 2006

For a beginner, before you start building any Adsense websites, do you know what the most important frame of mind is? This is essential before starting out. For example, if you begin a business, you should start off with a vision of what you want to achieve. This is what motivates us to work hard day in and day out.

If you’re serious with making money online with Google Adsense, whether it’s by creating original content filled websites or regularly updated blogs, you should understand that you are here for the long run. That is the key.

What does that mean?

It means that you need to stick with the experts’ advice and continue to do exactly what they do.

- Learn to create original content and update the website regularly.
- Learn about the different ways to drive traffic to the websites.
- Learn how to make your websites sticky so that visitors return.
- Learn how to search engine optimize your website

Continue doing these tasks and success and money will come. Remember this is not a get rich quick scheme. It can be your online home business enabling you to leave your office job.

Tracking Google Adsense

September 19th, 2006

Once you have built a lot of Google Adsense websites, you need to track where the clicks to the Adsense are coming from. This is very important in maximizing your profits. If you have 5 Adsense websites and you have total Adsens income of $50 for the month, you will definitely want to know which website is bringing in the dough.

“Channels” will be discussed in this section’s “beginners guide to Google Adsense”. Google has implemented a feature named channels, so that you can track which website your Adsense clicks are coming from and also the impressions. This feature is found when you log into your Google Adsense account. It is entitled “Custom Channel”. Specify a channel for which particular website then when you run the reports in the Google Adsense account, you will see which Adsense website shows the Adsense the most (impressions) and which website got the Adsense clicked on the most.

This information is gold. What you can do is test out the Google Adsense and your niches which you have picked and start testing the ones which can increase your Adsense income. If a site is having a lot of Adsense clicks, modify one minor component of it and see it it increases the CTR. For a site with low Adsense clicks, see what changes you can make to increase the income. Note down any changes you make and you will in time have a log of all the effective Adsense techniques you have tired and tested.

Google Adsense formats (part 2)

September 19th, 2006

Let’s continue with the different formats of Adsense in our regular beginners guide to Google Adsense section.

Square
Google Adsense now has their sizes in squares. This new addtion is a breath of fresh air for Adsense publishers. The original sizes such as Leaderboard and Skyscraper are now very common. When visitors see them, they know they are Google Adsense straight away. Of course, this feeling will decrease the CTR of the Adsense. Not good news for us.

Squares are more original and test have shown that people notice them more and CTR have shown an increase. You need to place these squares in place of Leaderboard and Skyscraper and see what the performance is like. As I mentioned before, do not count on other people’s test results. Test the new Adsense sizes yourself so that you can be sure of its effectiveness.

Google provides various sizes for these squares so there’s lots of things that will keep you busy testing with.

Image Ads
I have tested Image ads which basically show an image instead of text.  These will make the Adsense look like banners and the results for my sites vary. I guess this will depend on the market you are in. For example, with wrestling sites, I find that the images convert better than normal Adsense text.

Video Ads
This is very new at the time of this writing and there is not many videos in Google’s inventory that shows these Adsense. Therefore it is recommended that you stay away from these ads for the moment until it gets popular. Otherwise you’ll rarely have anything to show in your Adsense. For thing you can do to prepare is to make sure that you have the correct plugins to display the videos on your website. More information can be found in Google’s website.

That wraps it up for this series in the beginners guide to Google Adsense.

Different Formats of Google Adsense

September 18th, 2006

A beginner’s guide to Google Adsense will not be complete without knowing what the various sizes are available for your Adsense.

The Adsense ad units come in a variety of sizes. You will see these terms mentioned a lot in forums or in guides. Here is a list of them.

Leaderboard
This is horizontal and contains around 3 or more Adsense ads across the unit. Leaderboards are generally very eye catching and should be placed near the top of your website and/or near the bottom of your website. These ads go across the screen so it attracts the visitor’s eye.

Banner
These are like Leaderboard ads but you can limit them to 2 Adsense ads. These can be placed in the middle of your content which catches the visitor’s attention when they are reading your content.

Skyscraper
These are like the Adwords which appear on the right hand side of Google’s search results. They are normally placed on the left or right hand side of the webpage. It is a good idea to have some navigational menus on the side of your webpage and then to place a skyscraper Adsense below it.

This part of the beginner’s guide to Google Adsense will be continued tomorrow. Come back and watch this space.
